Local authority confirms start date for Quinlan Park housing development

Contracts were recently signed between Westmeath County Council and Sammon Developments Ltd. for the construction of ten new homes, associated parking, public open space and site development works at Cornamagh, Athlone, Co. Westmeath with construction to commence in September.

The project is being delivered under Housing For All and will provide 10 homes consisting of six three bedroom two-storey houses, three two bedroom two-storey houses and one two bedroom single-storey house.

The scheme is located adjacent to McCormack Park with houses and public open space facing the Coosan Road. The housing scheme is to be named Quinlan Park, in honour of Patrick “Pat” Quinlan, the an Irish Army officer who commanded the Irish UN force that fought at the Siege of Jadotville in Katanga in 1961.

All houses are designed to nearly Zero Energy Building (nZEB ) standard and use the latest Air-to-Water heating technology. Each home includes a wet-room at ground floor level suitable for assisted showering. One of the new homes is designed for a family of a child with special needs.

The main contractor for the project is Sammon Developments, who are based in Kilaneen, Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim.

The scheme at Quinlan Park is designed by Westmeath County Council’s in-house architectural team with the assistance of J.A. Gorman Consultant Engineers, Walsh Associates Quantity Surveyors and De Lap and Waller Mechanical and Electrical Engineers. The housing scheme is programmed for completion by the end of 2022.
