Rosemount and Westmeath senior footballer, Boidu Sayeh, features on the second episode of ‘Hector - Éire Nua’, a new television series highlighting all the great people from overseas who now call Ireland their home.
Popular host, Hector O’Heochagain, interviews Boidu during the episode, which will air on TG4 on Thursday, October 7, and during their talk, Boidu tells of his journey from his place of birth, Liberia, to the welcoming community of Rosemount in South Westmeath.
Describing his arrival in Ireland as a “big culture shock”, Boidu notes that it was an easy decision for his father to send him to Ireland with his uncle as a child as “he knew I was going to a better way of life”.
Having started his education in first class in Rosemount National School, Boidu swiftly adopted to playing GAA and having developed a talent for gaelic football progressed to playing for Westmeath at underage level before becoming a regular member of the Lake County senior team.
During the interview, Boidu expresses his gratitude to the people of Rosemount for their welcome and notes the ever evolving cultural presence within the GAA.
“I’m never going to forget my past and my history and obviously I’m more Irish than I am Liberian. I’ve been here a lot longer than I’ve been in Liberia,” Boidu states during his interview.
‘Hector - Éire Nua’ airs at 9.30pm on TG4 on Thursday, October 7.
