South Roscommon primary schools allocated CLÁR Programme funding

Local Fine Gael Senator, Aisling Dolan, has welcomed funding allocated to two South Roscommon primary schools under the CLAR programme.

“An essential aspect of the CLÁR programme focuses on safety for schools and so many parents and teachers will be delighted to hear this particular aspect of investment.

“In the parish of Moore, Camcloon National School in Ballydangan will receive a fantastic funding allocation of €50,000 for landscaped outdoor playing areas and exercise equipment for over 60 children, building upon recent investment in an additional classroom and special education teachers area for the school and I know we need even more to make this road a safer one to use.

“A sum of €20,000 has also been allocated to Clonown National School on the outskirts of Athlone for public lighting and a footpath for disabled access.

“As Fine Gael spokesperson on Education, I very much welcome this announcement by my colleague Minister Heather Humphreys to make our schools safer places.

“I promoted this programme to schools in our area and I must commend school boards and parents associations who worked with principals and teachers and Roscommon County Council on these applications.

“The past year has been a most difficult time for our teaching staff and in managing the safe return to school as well as taking the time in a very busy schedule to make these applications.”

“The CLÁR programme provides funding for small scale infrastructural projects in rural areas. Funding has been increased by 10 percent in 2021, in recognition of the importance of the programme to some of our most remote rural areas.

“We are fortunate to have such pro-active teams within our local authority to support our local groups who apply for this funding at a national level.

“For groups who would like to find out more do get in touch with my office on 087 940 0383,” Senator Dolan stated.
