Innovative health app launched to assist people with recurring medical challenges

Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland (SBHI ) has launched a health app to manage recurring health challenges for those living with the condition/s.

The app launch comes as part of a strategy to manage the recurring health challenges faced by people living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus (SB/H ) in Ireland.

The multifaceted nature of conditions such as spina bifida and hydrocephalus, means that individuals must attend multiple medical appointments in separate locations, take a range of medication, and ensure they are attending regular check-ups with a range of medical specialists, spanning Neuropsychology, Occupational Therapy, Urology, and more. The cognitive difficulties associated with conditions such as hydrocephalus makes these tasks exceedingly difficult to manage.

“It’s a life-changing app which empowers those living with SB/H to be independent in managing their own health and wellbeing.

“We envisage that this app will improve the health outcomes for both adults living with the conditions and parents/carers of children and adolescents. This app is the result of our mission to lighten the difficult burden of living with a life-long disability and all the challenges it presents in society.”

The health app is an effective tool which enables users to record their medication intake with reminders, track health-related appointments with consultants, and detail all other medical equipment currently in use. Additionally, the app can seamlessly share the information with medical professionals, ensuring adequate and appropriate healthcare.
