Family Carers Ireland is expressing their gratitude to all those who have supported their national ‘Paws for a Cause’ fundraising walk/run and awareness campaign, which has raised over €25,000 to date.
With an overall target of €50,000, the charity is urging anyone who hasn’t yet done so, to walk in solidarity with family carers and register for ‘Paws for a Cause’ or donate what you can on www.familycarers.ie
“We are so appreciative of the support we’re getting from people all across the country who have completed 24km in 7 days to highlight the 24/7 nature of family caring. We’re mid-way through our fundraising campaign and we’re making one final push to reach our target. You are helping us to provide a vital lifeline to the forgotten frontline of this pandemic and shine a light on their remarkable contribution to our society. Every penny raised goes directly to support family carers in crisis and we are appealing to everyone to donate whatever they can to Paws for a Cause.
“The last year has been incredibly difficult for all but, in particular for family carers who have played a very significant role in suppressing the coronavirus. When services shut down, family carers stepped up keeping their loved ones safe at home and out of hospital. The blanket withdrawal of supports such as homecare, respite, personal assistance hours and residential care, behavioural and physical therapies during lockdown forced many to care alone, around the clock and without the support of extended family or friends,” Catherine Cox, Head of Communications and Policy, Family Carers Ireland, said.
The funds raised will go directly to Family Carers Ireland’s National Crisis Fund, which supports families most affected by Covid-19, by providing emergency respite, counselling, emotional support and one-to-one well-being reviews, as well as the purchase of practical support items including hoists, wheelchairs and in some particularly difficult cases, putting food on tables and oil in heating tanks.
