Over a month has passed since it was confirmed that the winning €6,489,165 Lotto jackpot ticket was purchased at Applegreen service station in the Arcadia Retail Park in Athlone, but news emerged this week that the successful holder has made formal contact with the National Lottery.
A spokesperson for the National Lottery stated that arrangements were being made for the lucky winner to claim their life-changing prize. The Midlands ticket holder became the third Lotto jackpot winner of the year.
“We are delighted to confirm that the Lotto winner who scooped the €6.4 million jackpot on Saturday, May 22, has made contact with our prize claims team. We are now in the process of making arrangements for the jackpot prize to be paid,” the National Lottery spokesperson stated.
“What a way to start the summer!”
In further positive local National Lottery news, the Westmeath player who scooped the top prize of €500,000 in the EuroMillions Plus draw on Friday June 4, has officially claimed their prize.
The Midlands winner became half a million euro richer after purchasing their winning Quick Pick ticket at the Circle K M6 Athlone Motorway service station in Fossagh, Moate, at the beginning of June.
The Lake county player was overjoyed after scanning their EuroMillions ticket on the National Lottery app.
“When I scanned the ticket on my phone, the “You’ve won big!” message popped up on the screen immediately. I thought that maybe it could be the €5,000 prize for the EuroMillions Raffle but when I went through all of the raffle numbers and realized that I didn’t have any of the ones drawn, I was a bit unsure. And then of course I checked the draw results and saw that I had the Plus numbers – what a way to start the summer!”
The lucky winner plans to look after family with the unexpected windfall.
“It’s great to be able to clear the mortgage and of course plan some trips away. I’m looking forward to enjoying a big holiday as soon as it’s safe to do so.”
