Dubarry Park to host Buccaneers Junior Touch League finals day

The 2021 Buccaneers Junior Touch League (JTL ) finals day will take place on Saturday, June 26, in Dubarry Park with on field activities commencing at 1pm.

It promises to be a fun, family day out with parents encouraged to stay and attend the festivities. There will be music, food and also an exhibition game of touch is planned against a visiting team as a curtain raiser to the finals.

Over the last month up to 70 kids from 12-18 years of age have been introduced to the game of touch rugby in perfect summer conditions. The organisers, coaches and players have been blessed by the recent fine weather and even the dreaded midges decided to stay away!

The youngsters have received expert coaching from a number of international touch players from Buccaneers Touch, such as Paul Gavin and Nigel So, as well as from Buccaneers RFC coaches/players, Kolo Kiripati and Martin Staunton.

The players were split into six teams for the purposes of the league in both Under 15 and Under 18 age groups and there have been matchdays on Wednesdays and Saturdays for the last two weeks which will come to a conclusion next Saturday.

There have been many talented and enthusiastic players on view who will hopefully represent Buccaneers Touch in future competitions in 2021/2022 and maybe even go forward to play for Ireland in the years ahead.

The JTL committee headed by main organisers Brendan Wilkins and Mele Kiripati have worked very hard to organise this event and are grateful to the generous sponsorship received from local firms such as financial advisors Aldersmead, Deerpark Windows, Haydens & Co. Solicitors, as well as from Roscommon Fianna Fáil Councillor John Keogh.

To those who wish to become involved with the sponsorship of this event, they can contact Adil Kurt-Elli on +44 7587 771969 or Mele Kiripati on 083 845 2563.

A family day in prospect, so all are welcome to come along to Dubarry Park on Saturday to see what touch rugby is all about and join in the fun.
