Local Fianna Fáil Minister of State, Deputy Robert Troy, has welcomed confirmation from the RSA that an online driver theory test system will be rolled out shortly with capacity to carry out 3,200 tests per month.
“The current backlog of prospective drivers awaiting a theory test is very frustrating for all concerned and I have been lobbying the RSA for a number of months to put in place an online option. I am pleased that this has progressed and that candidates will shortly be able to carry out tests online.
“I am also aware from communication which I have had with the RSA that in person capacity will be vastly increased upon the resumption of services. Prior to restrictions being imposed the service could deal with 15,000 tests per month and this is expected to increase to 50,000 once it can re-open.
“It is hoped that clarification will be provided from government at the end of the month as to when in person theory tests and driving tests will be recommenced.
“We are very aware of the frustration and the hardship which the suspension of these tests is causing in many cases. We cannot have a situation whereby applicants continue to wait for appointments for months on end once the service has resumed. I am therefore very pleased to have received this information from the RSA and I hope that we can resume testing as soon as possible,” Minister Troy asserted.
