FF Euro candidate out of touch with constituency

This week Athlone town councillor Paul Hogan has said that Fianna Fáil’s Liam Aylward is out of touch with his constituency as hundreds of posters were erected around Athlone and the county erroneously.

Cllr. Hogan stated:

“The fact that posters for a European candidate contesting the Ireland East constituency erected posters in Ireland North and West constituency signals that this is a candidate who is out of touch with his constituency and electoral boundaries.

“This is exactly the type of politics Sinn Féin wants to change. We want to elect an MEP that will defend Ireland’s interest in Europe; the others want to defend Europe’s interest in Ireland. We have selected Cllr Padraig MacLochlainn, who has been in Athlone on numerous occasions since directing our party’s No to Lisbon campaign, and is familiar with the issues pertaining to the town and its environs.

“The erection of Fianna Fáil posters in the wrong constituency is an indication of their unfamiliarity with Athlone and its issues. This can be addressed by giving Padraig MacLochlainn your support and issuing him with a mandate for real representation,” concluded Cllr Hogan.
