Mayor welcomes commitment on St Francis Terrace green space

Athlone Town Mayor, Cllr Aengus O’Rourke, has welcomed a commitment by the local authority to provide a suitable and appropriate green space to the residents of St Francis Terrace in the heart of the town.

“While much of the talk is about the Railway Field Road I am always at pains to remind the engineers and executive of Westmeath County Council that we have a long standing and important commitment with the residents of St Francis Terrace and the surrounding residential area.

“That commitment involves the provision of a suitable and appropriate green space, an area that those living in the area can call their ‘green space’.

“At a recent meeting of Athlone Moate Municipal District, I was delighted to get confirmation from the Council that they will present a ‘green-space plan’ close to St Francis Terrace before the summer and well in advance of any work commencing on the Railway Field Road.

“This residential area has been devoid of a green area and in fairness the residents have had to endure a lot of upheaval in the area over the past fifteen years in particular. Much of the area surrounding this area has been a building site for that length of time. A decent green space is the least we can do,” Cllr O’Rourke confirmed.
