League fixtures confirmed as Westmeath prepare for competitive action

The official fixture list for the Allianz National Hurling League and Allianz National Football League has been confirmed.

The Westmeath senior hurling squad commence their campaign with the visit of Galway, the 2017 All-Ireland hurling champions, to Cusack Park on Saturday, May 8, for the opening Division 1 Group A fixture.

The following week Westmeath hurlers travel to Waterford city to face the 2017 and 2020 beaten All-Ireland hurling finalists, Cork are next on the list before the campaign concludes with the visit of Tipperary, the 2019 All-Ireland champions on June 6 and current champions Limerick to TEG Cusack Park on June 13.

Attractive ties abound as Westmeath prepare to contest with the premier hurling counties prior to the start of their Joe McDonagh Cup campaign.

Local derby for Westmeath footballers

The National Football League Division 2 North has also plenty of challenging potential with Meath providing opening day opposition for the Lake County men on May 15 in Navan before Mayo visit TEG Cusack Park a week later.

The two teams relegated from Division 1 in 2020 provide stiff opposition before the curtailed NFL programme will be completed when newly promoted Down visit Mullingar on Sunday, May 30.
