Historic occasion as Cill Óige ladies host inaugural training session

The return to outdoor activities was marked with a momentous occasion in the surrounds of Fr O’Growney Park, Rosemount, on Monday evening, as the female footballers of the newly formed Cill Óige GAA club, participated in their inaugural training session.

An amalgamation of the Castledaly and Rosemount GAA clubs, Cill Óige will provide the girls and ladies of both communities with the opportunity to compete at numerous underage and senior levels.

Speaking to the Athlone Advertiser this week, Club Chairperson, Joe Sheerin, acknowledged the cohesive spirit of his fellow committee members whose work culminated in the realisation of such a milestone moment for both South Westmeath GAA clubs.

“What we are witnessing here tonight in Rosemount is the culmination of much hard work conducted by the committee members involved. In September of last year, we started the process of forming an amalgamated club to accommodate the vast interest in playing gaelic games amongst the girls and ladies in both communities and our dream was realised at the beginning of March.

“It is great to see so many in attendance at our first training session for the various groups. Hopefully, there will be successful times to come. The aim would be to see those girls who start their Cill Óige journey at U12 eventually play for our senior team in the years ahead,” Joe enthused.
