Athlone Town Mayor affords due condolences to community advocate

Athlone Town Mayor, Cllr Aengus O’Rourke, has expressed his condolences following the passing of Jennifer Kirwan this past week.

“I was very sad to hear of the passing of the wonderful Jennifer (Jenny ) Kirwan this past week.

“Jenny was known to many in Athlone - in recent years she was the welcoming, friendly face of St Kieran’s Community Centre, where she was the manager of the facility.

“Her warm, positive personality endeared her to everyone who came in contact with her.

“Nothing was impossible at St Kieran’s Community Centre and Jenny saw to it that even in the face of adversity the work of the facility must continue.

“Jenny’s dedicated approach to her work at St Kierans was similar in many ways to the approach taken by Mona Joyce at the centre for many years.

“For, Jenny anything was possible once you had the support of the community, a willingness to work hard and a positive approach to life, and she had all of these attributes in spades.

“Jenny battled bravely through her illness, and leaves behind a devastated but very proud family. She is sadly missed by her daughter Amy, sons Leon, Jay and Neil, sister Linda, son-in-law Adam, daughter-in-law Debra, in-laws, nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and many friends.

“I would like to pass on my condolences to Jenny’s family and to the community associated with St Kierans as I know they are hurting at this time too.

“May Jenny rest in peace,
