Convicted man has additional bail set at €12,000

A man who sought bail on a contested burglary charge, despite having two addresses, seven outstanding warrants, and who is presently serving a four month sentence on a similar charge, was remanded in custody for another fortnight after failing to come up with the €12,000 set by the judge.

Simon Quilligan (31 ), with addresses at Blackberry Lane, Athlone and Fortunestown Lane, Tallaght, had been arrested in Gort, Co Galway on April 23 on foot of the outstanding warrants and had been in custody since.

Opposing bail, Garda John Divilly gave details of the alleged burglary on April 1, the number of Quilligan's outstanding warrants, and previous convictions to the judge at a special sitting last Friday (May 1 ).

Garda Divilly also explained how the defendant had been sentenced to four months in prison on March 26 for burglary, which he was serving at the moment but appealing.

Judge John Neilan set Quilligan's bail at €3,000, with an additional independent surety of €9,000 demanded.

Quilligan was remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison until May 13 to allow time to raise the money.
