Local Fine Gael Councillor, John Dolan, has welcomed the removal of the trees in Kilcleagh Cemetery in Castledaly.
“The trees in Kilcleagh cemetery in Castledaly have been a danger and a problem for years, with numerous trees falling on or near headstones in the old part of the graveyard around the ruins of the old church.
“We formed our committee a number of years ago to help improve the look and appearance of the graveyard. We have a wonderful and hardworking group who, with the assistance of Westmeath County Council, have really improved the look of the graveyard over the last number of years, but the one major issue that remained to sort out was the trees around the old part of the cemetery. I approached our local engineer Pat Nally for assistance in dealing with the trees and with his help we were able to get them knocked and removed.
“It is great to see the trees now gone and now our committee can progress with the many other improvements that are needed in the graveyard in the future in conjunction with Westmeath County Council. I want to thank and commend the work of our committee, Pat Nally and the contractors who completed the work,” Cllr Dolan, who is also the Chairman of the Cemetery committee, remarked.
