Ensure you keep active during lockdown with Action Physio

The present Covid-19 lockdown restrictions are necessary to help our society battle this persistent pandemic which continues to detrimentally impact society.

Unfortunately, due to cocooning and exercise limitations, many individual exercise and mobility levels have dropped. This does not have to be the case!

The benefits of exercise are many, but it can be difficult to find alternatives from exercises which give cause for fitness enjoyment.

Often, people are afraid to start an online fitness class, as they are worried about executing the exercises correctly or that the class will be too difficult.

Starting out with outdoor activities like running or cycling can be daunting if you have not done it before.

A little guidance is usually all that is necessary, but where do you go for this guidance?

Your Chartered Physiotherapist, sports scientist, gym instructor or GP can offer guidelines as to what exercises are best for you in lockdown.

Websites like www.iscp.ie offer information booklets and advice for exercise during lockdown.

Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh has produced a video to help older people stay active during this period, https://www.iscp.ie/news/Keeping-Strong-and-Steady-with-Mchel--Muircheartaigh.

The Chartered society of physiotherapists in the UK, www.csp.org.uk, have some great online content about getting starting with a new outdoor activity, with their ‘Love activity, hate exercise’ campaign.

Athlone has a fantastic new fitness park for all locals to enjoy! Best of luck with keeping active. If you need any advice or guidance, please call Action Physio on 0906494903 or compose and send an email to [email protected].
