New additions to Westmeath senior football management team

With a return to collective training imminent, Westmeath senior football manager, Jack Cooney, has significantly bolstered his backroom team prior to the start of the Lake County’s competitive season which will throw in at the end of February.

Cooney will aim to improve upon a prominent showing during Westmeath’s Covid-19 affected league campaign during which a number of positive performances almost resulted in promotion to the top division.

Structured on a regional basis for 2021, Westmeath’s league campaign will feature games with All-Ireland finalists Mayo, Meath and Down with the Lake County’s opening fixture provisionally due to throw in the weekend of February 27.

With a firm focus on the forthcoming spring season start, the current Westmeath supremo has appointed Ken Robinson and Cathal Mullen to prominent management positions.

Vastly experienced and fresh from his contribution to the Dublin senior ladies fourth successive All-Ireland football title, Robinson’s has attained a wealth of coaching knowledge during his experience with DCU, Ballymun Kickhams and Dublin hurlers.

Former Westmeath custodian and a key player in his county’s All-Ireland U21 success in 1999, Mullen rejoins the Westmeath management fray following a two year absence.

Both new additions to the management team will be hopeful of a positive impact as Westmeath strive for on field success and a tilt at a return to the top echelon of league football.
