RNLI formally launch Lough Ree lifeboat station public appeal

In their quest to construct a new lifeboat station at Coosan Point on the shores of Lough Ree, the RNLI is seeking the financial support of both the local and wider communities to achieve this much desired goal.

Aiming to raise €100,000 towards the construction of a new multi-purpose lifeboat station, the RNLI has launched a formal appeal with members of the public encouraged to donate €20, €30 or a sum of money of their choosing.

Funded by donations, the RNLI is a charity which relies upon public generosity to maintain the level of volunteer service it provides along the waters of Lough Ree.

RNLI crews have been rescuing people from the lake’s 29km stretch of inland water since 2012, launching more than 370 times and helping more than 1,060 people.

Due to the generosity of donor James Scougall, the crew have use of the latest Atlantic 85 lifeboat, but unfortunately, they do not have a proper home for her. They operate from temporary shipping containers and are in urgent need of a new, purpose-built station with modern facilities for casualties, crew and craft.

This fundraising project is an opportunity for the public to become a part of an enduring RNLI legacy. By supporting the funding of this new lifeboat station, you will be enhancing search and rescue in the area and boosting water safety and education activities in the community. You will be standing with the crew and making a lifesaving difference.

RNLI volunteers donate their time and energy to provide a 24/7 search and rescue service.

Donate what you can today and build construct a permanent station near the existing slipway at Coosan Point, crucial for the efficient launching and recovery of the lifeboat.

You will enable slicker operations and improved crew safety, training and comfort and also bring the RNLI’s lifesavers under one roof with the Inland Waterways Association of Ireland (IWAI ) and the formation of an exciting partnership for the future on Ireland’s Shannon waterway.

The RNLI needs you onboard so donate today!
