Mount Temple community host Christmas lights illumination event

A festive occasion to remember, the illuminating of the Christmas lights in Mount Temple was a source of much virtual attraction as the event was relayed on the local community’s Facebook page on Saturday night last.

Courtesy of a collaborative community volunteer ethos, a veritable feast of festive lighting was switched on in the village by local frontline workers, Rebecca and Sarah Lowry.

The annual illumination was streamed from New York thanks to Mount Temple native, Padraig Allen, who hosted a suitably magical occasion featuring song and chat from his US base.

Mount Temple is rich with musicians, singers and story tellers, many of whom contributed brilliantly on the night to play their part in creating a memorable event.

Cllr. Frankie Keena thanked Padraig Allen and all the fantastic artists for making the festive spectacle a success.

“The participation of students from both Baylin and Mount Temple national schools was special, heart-warming and so welcome and thanks to the wider community we have reached 23,000 views which is just amazing and the public feedback on the lighting display is so positive. It is not every day that we are presented with a two hour opportunity to showcase Mount Temple and the local areas to both a national and international audience,” Cllr Keena enthused.

Chairman of the Committee, Tom Daly, afforded due gratitude to all the volunteers for their endless work in erecting the lights during all weather climates and indeed both the local community and Westmeath County Council for their financial support towards the overall costs.
