Athlone records significant Covid-19 case numbers in updated figures

With the proposed exit date of Covid-19 Level 5 restrictions imminent, updated figures released by the Health Surveillance Protection Centre (HSPC ) and HSE have revealed that the Athlone local electoral area of Westmeath recorded the eighth highest rate of virus infection per population in the 14 day period from October 27-November 9.

There were 67 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the Athlone electoral area (Westmeath ) during this particular timeframe resulting in an incidence rate of 295.3 cases per 100,000 population (there is a total population of 22,692 within the Athlone local electoral area as per the most recent census ), a figure significantly higher than the national average incidence rate of 151.5 (as on November 9 ).

The Moate local electoral area also noted a sizeable number of confirmed Covid-19 cases during the time period from October 27-November 9 with 46 cases noted.

Boasting a total population of 18,444 as per the most recent census, the confirmed virus cases resulted in an incidence rate of 249.4 cases per 1000,000 population, this figure also significantly higher than the national average incidence rate (as on November 9 ).

As of midnight on Monday, November 16, Westmeath is placed sixth on the 14 day incidence rate per 100,000 population following the latest figures announcement.

With an incidence rate of 160.0, the case numbers still remain above the national average incidence rate of 121.3 cases per 100,000 population.
