Our Lady’s Bower student, Amy Zhao (15 ) has claimed a prestigious prize in this year’s 66th Texaco Children’s Art competition, the awards for which were announced in recent times.
Her work entitled ‘Girl in a Jumper’ achieved second prize in the 14-15 years age category, her portrait gleaning favourable comment from final adjudicator, Declan McMonagle who noted Amy’s creativity to be “imaginative and displaying a high level of skill”.
A regular entrant into the competition, Amy previously won first prize in the 12-13 years age category of the 2017 event and a Special Merit award in 2018.
With the onset of Covid-19, the competition had to be extended over a longer period this year with delays to the final adjudication process and the announcement of winners.
As a result, activities normally undertaken during April and May, traditionally, the introduction of winners to the media and the formal presentation of prizes, had to be set aside as a consequence of which prizes will be delivered by hand without the possibility of an awards ceremony.
