Mount Temple native and lead singer with New York based band, Maclean Avenue, Padraig Allen, will host a live concert to launch the switching on of the progressive community’s Christmas Lights for 2020.
Padraig and his band, who entertain their large Facebook following from across the US each Thursday and Saturday night, have kindly agreed to do a live link between both locations and appropriately the show, to take place on Saturday, November 28, will honour frontline workers.
Event organiser Tom Daly noted that the initiative is a unique opportunity to showcase the famous Mount Temple Christmas Lights display.
“We have received many compliments in recent years with regard to our Christmas lights display, with RTE’s Morning Ireland radio programme making reference to our festive illumination.
“This New York link is an opportunity to connect with locals living around the world who cannot make it home this Christmas and in that instance, Padraig and his family would normally be home over the festive period.
“We will also have a number of local acts involved on the night and are delighted that two local frontline workers will perform the switching on of the lights,” Tom enthused.
Cllr. Frankie Keena, PRO for Mount Temple Christmas Lights, noted the marvellous spirit of the voluntary committee who put up the lights each year in the village.
“We are really excited and indebted to Padraig for agreeing to stream this launch to New York and subsequently, throughout the USA. My appreciation is afforded to Tom for creating and crafting this idea. It is a marvellous opportunity to not only showcase our lighting display but also to promote Mount Temple to an international audience.
“Obviously due to COVID-19 restrictions, it will not be possible to host a public face to face launch of our festive lights, so we are inviting all persons to log onto the Mount Temple Christmas Lights Facebook page on the evening of Saturday, November 28 to view the stream.
“A link will be provided on this page for people to view and enjoy the entertainment that will be provided by fantastic artists from both Mount Temple and New York which starts at 8pm,” Cllr Keena concluded.
