Aficionados of the pre-CD medium are in for a bit of a treat tomorrow when the Records Fairs Ireland Group will be setting out their comprehensive array of vinyl wares at the Prince of Wales Hotel in Church Street on Saturday, May 2, from 9am to 6pm.
The fair will feature a massive head-spinning range of vinyl records spanning almost every era and every genre - from the 1950s right up to the present day - from blues to metal, rap to alternative, punk to funk, post-rock to 80s rock and Irish to indie.
There is literally something for everyone and every musical taste will be catered for.
If vinyl is the not the food of love for those thinking of attending, then a selection of hard-to-find CDs and DVDs will also be on sale on the day.
The Midlands has always been known as a music-loving region - not only for the world-renowned musicians who have come from the area, but for the great devotion of its people to buying and collecting music.
For its many music lovers nothing can beat the crackle and purr of a vinyl record, but sadly it has become harder in recent years to buy and track down vinyl.
All that is to change, however, thanks to a group of like-minded music fans and collectors who have come together to set up a new travelling Record Fair which comes to Athlone this weekend.
Record Fairs Ireland is a group made up of a number of Ireland’s best-known record dealers who have come together out of their mutual love of vinyl and the people who make it, play on it and listen to it.
Already they have hosted several successful fairs in Dublin and Mullingar and in the coming weeks they are organising record fairs in several other towns and cities, including Longford, Galway, Sligo, Kilkenny, Dundalk, Tullamore and Navan.
The group is based in Westmeath, a county which always had an appetite for record fairs, and indeed for vinyl, and Record Fairs Ireland are hoping for a big turn-out in Athlone on Saturday.
The company is also open to offers from Athlone collectors keen to sell on their own record collections.
Record Fairs Ireland has recently established a Facebook page, titled Record Fairs Ireland, so if you want to keep up to date with locations of their forthcoming fairs, or have any special requests for a particular record or artist ahead of their Athlone fair then check it out.
