Local Fine Gael Councillor welcomes resurfacing of Wansborough Lane

Local Fine Gael Councillor, John Dolan, has welcomed the resurfacing of the Wansborough Lane in Coosan this week.

“I am delighted that this lane has been resurfaced in recent times. I had been asked by the residents within the area to asses the state of the road. I could not believe that it was in such a poor condition and I immediately tabled a motion at the January Municipal meeting to have this routeway included in this year’s roads programme.

“I was informed by the residents that it had been 25 years since the road had been surfaced. I want to commend the excellent job done by the contractors and thank the Engineering staff in the Athlone district for their engagement with the residents and I in delivering such a good job. Hopefully they get many years of good use from this resurfaced road,” Cllr. Dolan commented.

Athlone Community Radio funding

Meanwhile, Cllr. Dolan has welcomed the allocation of €16,283 for Athlone Community Radio under the Stability scheme.

“I am delighted that Athlone Community Radio have been allocated over €16,000 under this scheme as they provide a vital mostly voluntary service in Athlone and indeed the surrounding areas.

“The station is produced on a shoestring budget and this funding will ensure their survival. This Government funding is helping local groups like Athlone Community Radio continue to provide many services and I know that it is money well spent.

“ I hope that Athlone Community radio will have many more years of providing a top class service to Athlone,” Cllr. Dolan enthused.
