A review of the need for speed ramps on the Old Tuam Road in Monksland is to be sought by Fine Gael Councillor, John Naughten.
Cllr. Naughten has confirmed he will be raising the issue at the next Athlone Municipal District meeting of Roscommon County Council.
“I will be asking the Council to review the situation in relation to installing speed ramps on the Old Tuam Road.
“Roscommon County Council did install flashing speed signs at this location, which were of benefit. However, residents still have concerns in relation to road safety in the area and are anxious that speed ramps would be installed,” Cllr. Naughten asserted.
Local Improvement Scheme
Meanwhile, the Fine Gael Councillor is seeking the opening of the Local Improvement Scheme for new applications, an issue which was raised by Cllr. Naughten at a recent meeting of Roscommon County Council.
“This scheme provides a vital opportunity for residents and other users of these non-public roads to have the road upgraded to a standard where it is suitable to access homes and agricultural land.
“I asked the Council to open such a scheme for new applications. It was agreed to refer the issue to the Special Policy Committee for Roads and Transport to review the proposal with a view to opening the scheme for applications later this year or early next year. This would be an excellent opportunity to upgrade non-public roads that are badly in need of repair,” Cllr. Naughten commented.
The Local Improvement Scheme applies to non-public roads with two or more users who may be landowners, householders or a combination of both.
