Buccaneers RFC prepare to host annual general meeting

The Annual General Meeting of Buccaneers Rugby Football Club takes place on next Tuesday night, June 30, at 8 pm via Microsoft Team App.

However, following the most recent Government announcement further easing COVID-19 restrictions, a change to hosting a ‘real’ rather than ‘virtual’ AGM is being considered by the club’s Executive Committee. The AGM could now take place in The Bounty so kindly keep an eye on our club website for further information in the coming days.

Phillip Moore RIP

It was with deep regret that Buccaneers RFC learned of the tragic death last week of Phillip Moore in a work accident near Dungannon. Phillip played for Buccs U20s for a couple of seasons in the early noughties whilst he attended Athlone Institute of Technology. A key and renowned player with his local club Clogher Valley RFC, Phillip was a very able prop who represented Ulster at underage and played for the province’s Junior side for over a decade. Buccaneers RFC extend our heartfelt sympathy to his wife Ruth, daughter Lilly and wider family. May he rest in eternal peace.

Jersey Launch

Canterbury have launched a new limited edition Buccaneers ‘Lions Origin’ club jersey to celebrate producing a player, Robbie Henshaw, who has played for the British and Irish Lions.

This special jersey is now available and can be ordered on the club’s website, www.buccaneersrfc.com The colourful jersey comes in sizes to suit all from Minis players all the way up to beefy front-rowers and indeed now out of condition past players! Delivery is guaranteed before the new season kicks off.

Training to Commence

In line with the IRFU ‘Return to Rugby Protocols’, a sub-committee headed up by the club’s Secretary Michael Cleary has been put in place at Buccaneers to oversee and monitor COVID-19 compliance with regulations. The IRFU have provided a comprehensive road map for return to rugby. Sanitisers and reduced training pods will be in place when training gets under way in the coming days.

Connacht Signings

Connacht U18 Grand Slam captain, Darragh Murray, is among the province’s Academy Year One signings. Older brother Niall has been awarded a professional contract with Connacht along with fellow Buccaneers players, Colm Reilly (who like Niall played on Ireland’s U20 Six Nations grand slam winners last season ) and Sean Masterson. Meanwhile a trio of young Pirates Declan Adamson, Shane Jennings and Oisin McCormack have moved up to Year Two in the Academy.
