At the time of going to press, no formal decision had emanated pertaining to the format of the forthcoming Westmeath club football and hurling championships.
A meeting of the county board CCC was to take place on Wednesday night (June 17 ) following which a detailed fixtures plan was expected to be announced.
The unveiled plan would then need the ratification of clubs before competitive competition can commence.
With the period July 31-October 11 allocated by the GAA towards the running of club competitions, it allows a brief timeframe for the senior, intermediate and junior championships to be hosted in both playing codes.
A revised round robin format has been mooted with four groups each comprising three teams, while a once off knockout competition may be the preferred fixture format with a ‘back door’ round afforded to teams defeated in the opening rounds of their respective championships.
