As the initial phase of COVID-19 ease of restrictions commenced, fairways enthusiasts were to the fore in both Athlone and Moate Golf Clubs as member's eager to sample sporting action for the first time in two months, graced both courses.
Athlone GC PRO, Benny Fuery confirmed that the golf course on the majestic shores of Lough Ree was opened solely for members use.
"Athlone Golf Club is open for play for members only under the COVID-19 guidElines laid out by the GUI/ILGU and all tee time slots must be made on our online facility.
"The course management team has maintained the course to a very high standard during the last eight week close down.," Benny confirmed.
Meanwhile, Moate GC PRO, Andy Dunne, welcomed the reopening of the popular playing facility in the heart of the town.
"While we are absolutely delighted to be open for business again, we are very mindful of the wellbeing and safety of employees and members alike and strict conditions for play have been sent to all members.
"Strict conditions for play remain in force, with golf being restricted to members only and no club competitions permitted during this time. Members with any symptoms of COVID-19 must stay away from the course.
"Physical distancing rules are observed by all members at all times and under no circumstances should you arrive at the club without booking in advance. You cannot play if you are not booked on the BRS. Tee times must be booked via BRS or shop. We have adapted the BRS to three balls with 14 minute intervals and members can tee off from 7am-7pm daily.
"Members are urged to arrive at the club no more than 15 minutes prior to play. Do not touch flagstick. Hire trolleys must be sanitized before use. If you must use a buggy it must be for solo use. Rakes have been removed from bunkers and members may place ball before playing from bunker.
"All juniors must have an adult with them while on the course. Course rangers will be on site to ensure only members are playing and that strict social distancing guidelines are being adhered to. Toilet facilities will be available but ensure you adhere to health and safety guidelines. The restaurant remains closed," Andy Dunne, Moate GC PRO, stated.
