Garrycastle GAA affording support to worthy charitable causes

Continuing in the theme of community spirit and support, most prevalent during the present pandemic, Garrycastle GAA host a fundraising initiative this bank holiday weekend, Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31, when club members are encouraged to 'Timpeall na Tire'.

Raising much needed funds for Athlone Meals and Wheels and Croí - fighting heart disease and stroke, the initiative will see club members virtually travel the perimeter of Ireland, a total of 3,172kms.

Speaking to the Athlone Advertiser this week, club senior footballer, Doron Harte, who, with Sarah Dolan, has organised the fundraising initiative, noted the need to support charities whose income would have plummeted during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Charities require additional fundraising support during these times. Locally, we have chosen to afford fundraising support to Athlone Meals on Wheels who have a dedicate volunteer base, while we will also afford monies raised to Croí.

"Sadly, heart disease and stroke infiltrates communities on a regular basis and within our club, I think of Anthony O'Brien and Derek Daly in this regard," Doron remarked.

Bringing Garrycastle GAA 'Timpeall na Tire', Doron is encouraging all club members, to show their fulsome support for both charities this weekend.

"Walk, run or cycle in your Garrycastle colours, take a photograph of your activity and kilometres covered and post to the club's numerous social media platforms and donate what you can to two very worthy charities," Doron remarked.
