Westmeath man faces extortion charge

Junior and Senior Counsel have been assigned to a man who faces charges of extortion in the Circuit Court.

The charge carries a maximum sentence of 14 years on conviction.

The alleged offence took place on October 14 2007.

The Book of Evidence has been served on Liam Ward of 2 Meeting Place Lane, Mullingar and he will appear before Judge Anthony Kennedy’s court on May 12.

He was granted bail on his own surety of €5,000 and ordered not to go near his sister’s address at 20 Rossfield, Tallaght, Co Dublin.

A number of other charges have been adjourned to June 4 when a co-defendant is before the court.
