Henshaw becomes a Lion

This week three years ago, Robbie Henshaw was one of 11 Irish players to be selected for the 2017 British and Irish Lions squad to tour New Zealand.

The Athlone man’s selection was a historic one as he became the first home grown Buccaneers club player to represent the iconic rugby touring side.

The call up was yet another feather in the cap of the Marist College alumnus who made his Ireland debut against the USA in Houston in 2013, earned a Six Nations Championship medal in 2015, a Guinness PRO 12 title with Connacht in 2016, and scored the decisive try to clinch Ireland’s first victory over New Zealand in Chicago in 2016.

Despite Henshaw playing four times with appearances against Super XV outfits Blues, Highlanders, Chiefs, and Hurricanes, the experience would prove to be a disappointing one for the Leinster man as he succumbed to injury which resulted in his tour being cut short.
