Local GAA clubs advised to cease recreational activities

Pertaining to the most recent COVID-19 related restrictions, local clubs within the GAA realm, have been instructed in recent times to close their facilities with immediate effect.

In an open letter to all GAA club members, President, John Horan, has instructed that such facilities, to include the use of all pitches and property for recreational purposes, incorporating walking, casual games or gatherings, be adhered to until Sunday, April 19, at the earliest.

Where it is not possible to restrict access clubs are advised to erect relevant signage to the effect that all GAA facilities are closed with all activity suspended.

In order to facilitate an orderly resumption of activities when circumstances permit, clubs are encouraged to proceed as normal with their membership registration process where practical being mindful of the possible changed financial situations of members.

Club lottos may proceed if they are run on an online basis and do not involve wholesale engagement with the public.

Clubs are also advised to refrain from undertaking new capital projects while support funding for this mode of work is suspended.

Community Support

As a national/international organisation, the GAA has a part to play in emphasising the need to practice social distancing as outlined by the authorities.

It is imperative that extreme caution is exercised by keeping two metres between persons while taking physical exercise while encouraging persons to use off-peak times when they are less likely to meet others.

GAA club members are also encouraged to volunteer efforts as local communities unite in the face of public health adversity with individual volunteers requested to register with Volunteer Ireland.

Concluding, the President stated that the GAA is working hard to ensure that it is in the nest possible position for a prompt return to playing activities when that time finally arrives.
