G4 Challenge adventure vehicles take to Irish roads

The ultimate adventure vehicles, which will take part in the world’s most gruelling driving and adventure competition, the Land Rover G4 Challenge, are travelling around Ireland this week as part of a major recruitment drive to find the country’s top adventure enthusiasts.

Irish men and women with a passion for adventure will be tested physically and mentally as they compete for a place on the Irish team, comprising one male and one female, to represent their country in The G4 Challenge Finals in Mongolia in 2009.

Competitors can log on now to ' www.landroverg4challenge.com ' to complete their applications. The closing date for entries to the national selections is 30th September 2008.

The 2008/09 Land Rover G4 Challenge programme is run in support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. This partnership will generate more than €1.5m for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies over the next two challenges. In addition, each participating nation will be raising funds in aid of their National Society. The winning team will receive a Land Rover to donate to their National Society.

Damian Hughes, marketing manager of Land Rover Ireland said, “We are very excited to confirm Mongolia as the main location for the Finals of the Land Rover G4 Challenge in 2009. Our team on the ground has been working hard to find routes that will push our vehicles and the competitors to their limits. Mongolia is a spectacular country, which will enable us to create a truly extraordinary Finals event.

“The 2008/09 G4 Challenge promises more sweat, more excitement and more adventurous 4x4 driving and we’re looking for the unique few who have what it takes.”

The 18 national teams will be pushed to their limits in a thrilling competition involving off-road driving and adventure sports such as kayaking, mountain biking and climbing.

Mongolia is the most sparsely populated independent country on the planet. A blend of terrain offering arid steppes, mountains and extreme climate of one of the world’s largest deserts, the Gobi, makes Mongolia a natural fit with Land Rover’s G4 Challenge.
