Local Councillor striving for Seanad Éireann seat

Harbouring ambitions of attaining a seat within Seanad Éireann, Fianna Fáil Councillor, will realise his nomination fate following the voting process conclusion on March 23.

Having received nominations for a Senate seat courtesy of PDFORRA (Permanent Defence Force Other Ranks Representative Association ) and AGSI (Association of Garda Sergeants & Inspectors ), the local businessman believes that it is vital to ensure representation for Athlone at a national political level following the loss of the town’s Dáil seat in the General Election.

“Now, more than ever, Athlone needs representation on a national level. Progressive plans which have been proposed for the town must be realised to enhance our presence as a regional growth centre under the National Framework Plan 2040. The loss of our Dáil Deputy may have grave consequences for our town and I do not wish to see Athlone stall from an enhancement perspective in the times ahead,” Cllr. O’Rourke commented.

Working as a local authority public representative for ten years, Cllr. O’Rourke has been focused on his Senate election campaign for six months and in the coming times will see him journey the country seeking support prior to the voting process in March.
