Magical Christmas market continues in Civic Square

Operating for nine consecutive days this year, the magical Christmas market experience in the Civic Square is proving to be a festive success with locals savouring the atmosphere at the numerous trading stalls.

Now in its fourth year, the Christmas market features twelve new wooden cabins which have transformed the Civic Square location with a vast array on display from various local artisan producers selling festive gifts, with the huge Christmas tree sparkling with bright lights adds to the festive feel.

Live entertainment under the new canopy takes place this weekend from 2-6pm with the sounds of local musicians and the wonderful Forget Me Not Choir, as Santa Claus descends upon the Civic Square on Sunday afternoon.

The medieval town centre is full of yuletide cheer with the hustle and bustle of a festive fair with the local public encouraged to sample the atmospheric surrounds in the central town location.

Athlone Christmas Market is run by a voluntary committee, Christmas Market Athlone, with support from Athlone Chamber of Commerce and Westmeath County Council and the ‘greening’ journey which began last year will continue throughout this year’s festival.

The Christmas market will remain open until Sunday, December 22, running daily from 12pm to 8pm.
