Carberry appointed Athlone Town first team head coach

Athlone Town have appointed Adrian Carberry to the role of first team head coach following the departure of Terry Butler from the position last weekend.

News of the appointment emanated from the club at the time of going to press following a meeting of the board on Tuesday evening.

Native to Newtowncarberry on Athlone's west side, Carberry was an immensely popular figure with supporters during his playing career with Athlone Town. The former St. Peter's footballer (with whom he honed his playing talents as a youth ) also enjoyed a League of Ireland spell with Galway United.

In a statement released by the club late on Tuesday night, the board of management expressed their delight with the appointment, wishing Carberry every success during his tenure as head team coach.

Speaking following his appointment, Carberry enthused with regard to the challenge of being the the Athlone Town first team coach, looking forward to the team's return to pre-season training prior to the League of Ireland First Division campaign which now appears to have a fresh impetus following this announcement.

"We are very happy that Adrian has come on board, and we hope that everyone in the town gets behind him and the team when the new First Division season kicks off in the spring," John Hayden, Athlone Town Chairman, remarked.
