More Athlone Boat Club medal success at indoor rowing meet

As daylight diminishes, rowers from around the country returned to their respective club houses and gyms to train on their ergos and commenced preparations for the indoor rowing season.

Athlone Boat Club junior representatives were in competitively determined mode as they travelled to the University of Limerick sports arena to participate in the Irish Provinces Indoor Rowing Competition (PIRC ), which attracted athletes from the four provinces.

The club entered strong crews in all the raceday categories, with each member being shepherded through their events by coaches Don Egan, Aisling Flanagan and Alan Kenny.

The coaches sat alongside each athlete encouraging and supporting them through. Cian Scanlon had a great result achieving the gold medal in the boys’ junior 15s 500 metres and the bronze medal in the junior 15s five minute piece, while Eliza Heaslip attained a gold medal in the girls’ junior 15s 1000 metres.

Fellow Athlone Boat Club junior members achieved personal best times, and all had a great day representing not only the esteemed club, but also the town of Athlone.
