A recovery operation continues for a person who was reported entering the River Shannon on Tuesday evening of last week.

Speaking to the Athlone Advertiser, Athlone Sub Aqua Club PRO, Cormac Nott, confirmed that an active recovery search remains ongoing.

“This past weekend the number of divers involved in the search was increased with the Midland Regional Search and Recovery team consisting of volunteers from Athlone Sub-Aqua club, Longford Scuba divers, Mullingar Sub-Aqua Club, Lough Ree Sub-Aqua club, Shannonside Snorkelers and Roscommon Sub-Aqua Club. On Sunday, in excess of 55 members in 7 boats took part in a wide scale search of the river,” Cormac confirmed.

The recovery operation has been elongated to three kilometres beyond the weir wall with searches ongoing on a daily basis.
