Cllr. John Naughten has welcomed the taking in charge of the River Village estate in Monksland by Roscommon County Council.
“The decision was taken at a recent meeting of Athlone Municipal District and I welcome the fact that this estate has now been taken in charge. It is something that residents had been seeking for some time.
“Irish Water will now be taking responsibility for the water supply and the sewerage, while Roscommon County Council will be taking responsibility for the roads, footpaths and lighting in the estate.
“I also expect that a number of other estates in the Monksland area will be taken in charge over the coming months,” Cllr. Naughten confirmed.
Tuam Road works
Meanwhile, the Fine Gael Councillor, has confirmed he will be seeking an update on the upgrade works to take place on the new Tuam Road at the next meeting of the Athlone Municipal District.
“I will be seeking an update on the moving of the Part 8 on the upgrade of the New Tuam Road which incorporates footpaths, lighting, surface works and a roundabout at the junction with the Taughmaconnell road and will be asking when this matter will be brought to a meeting of Roscommon County Council to allow these works to be progressed.
“In addition, I will be seeking a pedestrian crossing at Cloonakilla NS. The school is located in a very busy position on this road and a pedestrian crossing is needed to ensure the safety of those crossing to and from the school,” Cllr. Naughten stated.
