Opel launches new models at major motor show

Opel had world premieres of the new Opel Corsa, the Grandland X Hybrid and the new Opel Astra at the Frankfurt International Motor Show.

Opel is highlighting the fact that the new Opel Corsa will be available as an efficient, classic combustion-engine version towards the end of this year, with a starting price of circa €18,000. It will also be available first time also as a battery-electric Corsa-e from next March at circa €25 to €26,000 after Government grants/ incentives. It will feature a purely electric range of up to 330 kilometres according to WLTP1.

Another world premiere from Opel was the new Grandland X Hybrid4 with all-wheel drive. It will go on sale here next March with a price tag of about €48,000. The plug-in hybrid combines the power of a 1.6 turbocharged petrol engine and two electric motors for a system output of up to 300hp. Preliminary WLTP2 fuel consumption (weighted, combined ) is 1.6 l/100 km with 37 g/km CO2 (NEDC3: 1.6 l/100 km, 36 g/km CO2 ).

The next newcomer in the group is the latest new Opel Astra, which is due here next January with an entry level price of circa €24,000. With its claimed outstanding aerodynamics, a completely new generation of engines and newly developed transmissions, Opel says that the Astra sets standards in terms of efficiency and low emissions.

Compared to its predecessor, CO2 emissions are reduced by up to 21 per cent (Astra five-door 1.2 Direct Injection Turbo, 96 kW/130 hp, ), which Opel claims to make it the most efficient Astra of all time.

Also on the Opel stand was the new Opel Zafira Life. Twenty years after the success began with the first generation in 1999, the story is now continuing with a newly developed fourth-generation model. The Zafira Life comes in a new dimension – in three vehicle lengths, highly versatile with space for up to nine people and with top comfort and assistance systems.

Finally, Opel also presented the first electric rally car for customer motor sport – the Corsa-e Rally.
