Tuar Ard Arts Centre in Moate have launched their busy new programme of events for autumn and winter, which aims to entertain all ages from September through to December!
Upcoming projects and events over the next few months will explore an exciting variety of music, theatre, film, comedy, classes and workshops to treat all tastes.
Tuar Ard Theatre will be hosting a wide range of music events, with styles ranging from folk music with The ‘Dubliners’ Tribute Band, to country with Ciarán Rosney, Patrick Feeney, and Johnny Brady, to traditional with The Wrafter Family Band and The Wonders of the Wake, and indie-rock with First Day Lions.
Their theatre schedule includes the return of popular local talent Mount Temple Drama Group performing The Cripple of Inishmaan, and Cill Dara Drama Group staging a production of the comic play I Do Not Like Thee, Doctor Fell. Jon Kenny returns again to Tuar Ard this season with his acclaimed solo performance in Crowman, a play that received standing ovations every night during its initial run in the Cork Midsummer Festival. Donal Courtney will also perform God Has No Country, a show telling the story of the struggles encountered by the “Scarlet Pimpernel of the Vatican” Monsignor Hugh O’ Flaherty, an Irish priest responsible for saving thousands of lives during World War II.
The Tuar Ard Film Club returns with a great range of specially chosen offerings from international cinema, and there are exciting visual art exhibitions in the Bob Traynor Gallery from artists Loretta Costello and Helena O’Connor, as well as a display from St. Oliver Plunkett Boy’s National School.
This season Tuar Ard have expanded and built on their outreach programme with schools, widening their cultural offerings to those in pre-school, primary school, and secondary school levels. Building on their young audiences in their Schools Programme, they are delighted to introduce a new programme of Family Theatre this season. This will provide the opportunity for children and their families to experience exciting theatre entertainment together in Tuar Ard - whether that be through a Christmas performance, a Halloween storytelling session, or a family magic show!
