A close season which saw the club lose ten first team players from the squad which annexed the RDFL Premier Division title in May appears to be a memory as St. Peter's claimed their second success of their league campaign, a stirring comeback victory over title rivals, Ballinasloe Town on Sunday last.
An encounter which saw the visitors to McCarty Park open a two goal lead had a completely different final whistle complexion when goals from club stalwart, Mark Sherlock, Gary Kelly and Mark Hehir, ensured the Hoops tasted a sweet early season victory.
St. Peter's manager, Padraig Moran, was full of praise for his charges as they retrieved what appeared an unlikely deficit.
"It's a great early season win against a team who will be one of our rivals as we aim to retain our league crown. Having achieved back to back victories, we are now in a much stronger position than four to six weeks ago when numbers at training were minimal," Padraig remarked.
As the club continues to add to their playing squad, Padraig was pleased to have a full substitutes bench from which to choose for the first time since St. Peter's returned to pre-season training.
"We are hopeful of adding more signings to the squad, with the recent additions of JP Stephens and Kevin Dunne a boost for the team from a central defensive perspective," Padraig commented.
Having returned to the club's home base, McCarty Park, for the forthcoming campaign, Padraig believes this is of major benefit to the players, a ground which holds many memories for the former Hearts footballer.
"McCarty Park holds many fond memories for me having played my youth football there with St. Peters and hopefully, we can use it to our utmost advantage as the season progresses," Padraig stated.
