An intermediate camogie intercounty odyssey which commenced in mid June reaches its conclusion in the surrounds of Croke Park as the Westmeath camogie squad aspire for All Ireland success in a final encounter with Galway on Sunday afternoon (throw in, 2pm ).
With a strong squad ethos prevalent amongst the Westmeath squad throughout their championship campaign to date, the Lake County will be seeking to reverse the result of the teams Group One round robin encounter when the western county claimed victory by the minimum.
It was the sole defeat suffered by Westmeath in the championship to date (winning five games ) and under the leadership of Mairead McCormack, who together with Joanne Keenan will represent the south of the county on All Ireland final day (both play their club hurling with Castletown Geoghegan ), the team’s confidence has gradually begun to flourish with each passing camogie contest.
Victory by a sole point in what was a thrilling semi-final against Group Two winners Down (who were undefeated prior to throw in ), has raised expectation levels within the county and having previously tasted All Ireland success at GAA HQ when winning the junior title in 2017, it is hoped that Westmeath camogie dreams can become reality on Sunday afternoon come the shrill of the final whistle and a first intermediate crown annexed.
