South Bank Playhouse presents Plaza Suite by Neil Simon in Athlone Little Theatre on Friday August 9 and Saturday August 10. The play is the first element of a new twinning project between the Belfast-based group and Athlone Little Theatre which will see both groups collaborating on various initiatives of common interest.
Hilarity abounds in Neil Simon’s terrific comedy portrait of three very different couples occupying the same suite at the New York Plaza Hotel on three very different occasions.
A suburban couple take the suite while their house is being painted, and it turns out to be the same suite in which they honeymooned 19 (or was it 20? ) years ago. She is waiting for champagne from room service and he is waiting for his secretary to bring some important business papers.
This wry tale of a marriage on the rocks is followed by the exploits of a Hollywood bigwig who, after three marriages, is looking for fresh fields. He calls a childhood sweetheart, now a suburban housewife, for a little ‘diversion’.
Finally, a mother and father are fighting about the best way to get their bride-to-be daughter out of the bathroom and down to the ballroom where their guests and her future husband are waiting.
Married bliss… or love in crisis? Find out in this excellent night of comedy courtesy of South Bank Playhouse in Athlone Little Theatre on August 9 and 10 at 8pm.
