Some green shoots apparent on quiet planning files

The chill wind of recession does not seem to have affected the hospitality trade in south Westmeath with the news that the proprietors of the Village Inn on the square in Tyrellspass have been given permission to retain an extension and renovation of the listed and protected premises.

This includes converting an adjacent residence into a restaurant and additional bedrooms, an 87sqm extension to the bar, as well as new entrances and a two storey fire escape.

Permissions of note elsewhere in the county include a plan for 14 detached and seven semi-detached houses to be built by Eugene McCormack in Multyfarnham. This will include a brand new access road and entrance onto the existing public road.

In Moate, Midwae Installations, the Clara building contractors, has been given the go-ahead to keep its previously installed underground gas service tanks at its Sliabh Rua site on the Ballymore Road in the town .

In Athlone, Claire Gaffey has been given the green light to extend her equestrian centre at Moydrum from 14 to 26 stables.

Elsewhere on the planning files, things have been fairly quiet, with only one small project refused and only one application received.
