Martin Hayes Quartet to play Feakle Festival 2019

MARTIN HAYES, Eleanor Shanley, Dave Sheridan, Steve Cooney, and Cormac Begley will be among the musicians playing the Feakle Festival, which runs in the east Clare village from Wednesday August 7 to Monday 12.

A celebration of Irish traditional music and culture, this year’s festival has concerts, workshops by master tutors in most instruments, dancing and singing classes, sessions and recitals in the afternoon, activities for children, and céilís every night.

The highlights include the café style concert on Thursday 8, billed as A Night of East Clare Music, featuring Josephine Marsh, Mary and Andrew MacNamara, singer Sean Lyons, and harpist Eimear Coughlan - grand-daughter of the legendary fiddler Paddy Canny. Wine and artisan food will be included. Tickets are €20.

The concert in St Mary’s Church on Friday 9 will see Feakle’s musical ambassador, and an absolute titan of Irish trad and fiddle playing - Martin Hayes. He will be joined by Doug Wieselman, Liz Knowles, and Hayes’ regular musical partner, the guitarist Dennis Cahill. The quartet continues Martin’s musical explorations into a meeting place of trad, bass clarinet, viola d’amore, improvisation, and melody. The concert will also feature Eleanor Shanley, Dave Sheridan, Padraig McGovern and John McCartin.

Saturday’s gala concert takes place in the community hall, and will feature Steve Cooney, Cormac Begley, Catherine McEvoy, Micheál Ó Raghallaigh and Jack Talty, Lily and Eve O’Connor, with Caoilte Morrison and Éilis Crean, joined by John Regan and John Mock.
