Culinary creativity to the fore at Creggan Court Hotel

Ideally nestled on the outskirts of Athlone town centre, the Creggan Court Hotel continues to enhance upon its reputation for fine dining in comfortable and welcoming surrounds.

Suitably in need of lunch time nourishment, my guest and I arrived to the hotel where we were warmly received by duty manager Daniel Guinan. Dining in the Granary Gastro Pub, we tasted from an extensive carvery menu – and with an endless choice to cater for all palates, took time to peruse and choose our three course options, which were explained in detail by chef Orla Mason.

Starting on our meal, my guest opted for the flavoursome vegetable soup, while I had the chicken wings, complete with a homemade spicy sauce which set the tone for our main course dishes. Colourfully adorned, both main course plates proved to be the perfect choice to complement our starters. My guest opted for the breaded cod, while pork chops, stuffed with raisins and apple was my main course choice. The breaded cod was cooked to perfection and the side of mushy peas the ideal complement for the dish. A rare occurrence to see pork chops as a choice on a carvery menu, hence the decision to opt for this dish and I can say I was delighted with my dining choice. Flavour flowed on the plate as I enjoyed each mouthful, with a gravy jus accelerating the taste. Both main courses were accompanied by freshly cooked vegetables, with salad and fries an alternative option.

Completing the meal, dessert choices were plentiful. A particular speciality of chef Orla Mason’s, whose personal touch was very much evident from the sweet dishes we chose, my guest opted for banoffee pie, while tiramisu was my preferred dessert. The infused ingredients made for taste heaven as the banoffee pie and tiramisu just suitably completed our three course lunch. Not alone were the desserts of choice so palatable, but their colour and presentation oozed class.

With customers arriving in large numbers to sample from the carvery menu, dining options at the Creggan Court Hotel are appealing to both the local and passing trade. With such high culinary standards, this popular hotel provides food excellence.
