Southern Gaels Club Notes

County Squad for U14s Congratulations to four of our U14s who featured on the county squad that faced Meath last Saturday. Luke Whelan, Johnny Martin, Dano McMonagle and Conn O’Hara were named on the panel and while only the first two got a run out it is a great achievement for all to be visible at this level.

Johnny scored 1-4 during the match and the team were unfortunate to lose the match by a point. It’s no surprise these lads are coming to the attention of those at county level and we can expect to see more Southern Gaels being called up in the near to play at the highest standard.

Well done lads, you do us proud. Intermediates fall to Ringtown Last Sunday saw our senior squad fall for a second time in a week as they lost to Ringtown in their championship challenge in Cusack Park last Sunday. While the team lost it was a much-improved performance on last week’s clash against Oliver Plunketts in Ballymore.

While all clubs will suffer absences at this time of the year, the younger profile of our squad means more have the opportunity to travel during college holidays and so it is a great achievement that we are fielding a panel who are flying the flag for the club at a tough level. Well done to all involved and particular mention to Sean Dowd (11 points ), MJ Kelly, Trevor Farrell, Kieran Duncan, Shane Galvin, Darragh Lennon and Jonathan Keogh (who stepped in goals for the game ) who gave a great performance in tough conditions.

The team are a credit to the club with huge commitment from loyal servants of the club for many years. Thanks to all involved. Ballymore too strong for U14s Fr. Daltons proved too strong for our U14s last Thursday evening in Ballymore as the tough environment of Division 1 championship revealed itself.

The depleted squad, with many on holidays, held firm until half time, but the opposition pulled away in the second half revealing why they are leading the field at this level at the moment. Scores from Dano McMonagle, Killian Keegan and Johnny Martin keep the match competitive but once it was clear that victory was beyond them the selectors gave all who showed up a run out and the score became irrelevant by the time the final whistle blew.

Great to be getting these games as the experience gained will serve us well in the future. Thanks to all who travelled.
