After a week of winds and rain, the weather looked favourably down down upon Athlone Boat Club on Saturday with rays of sun emanating from behind the clouds as the club's annual regatta commenced.
Deputy Kevin 'Boxer' Moran, a long time friend of Athlone Boat Club, was present to offer his early morning support as in excess of 390 clubs boasting 1,300 athletes competed in the numerous classes and age categories during an event laden day.
Coosan Point was a veritable hive of activity as coaches and competitors complete with a large swathe of river side support ensured a regatta day to remember.
The local sub aqua club, RNLI, IWI, ambulance crews, local authority, visiting umpires and a host of sponsors also provided unequivocal support during the course of an active day.
With a race starting on the river every five minutes for a duration in excess of ten hours, loud cheers of encouragement reigned in from the shores as competitors vied for supremacy, with Athlone Boat Club crews in Junior and Masters classes featuring prominently on the medal table.
An incident free day, the club looks forward to hosting Athlone Regatta 2020 with imminent enthusiasm!
