A day laden with activities for children is certain to entertain as the Athlone Family Resource Centre and Westmeath County Council library services have excitingly collaborated for the annual Cruinniu na nOg national event.
Athlone Library will be a hive of activity this Saturday, June 15, from 10am to 4pm, as the younger family members descend upon the civic centre for a wealth of entertainment.
Commencing at 10am, a ‘build your own tower’ lego station will be in operation for children aged seven and over, while morning time stories for those aged between three and eight years will start at 10.30am.
From 11am to 12pm, with Fathers Day in mind, children will be encouraged to make celebratory cards with face painting also commencing at this time.
Between 12pm and 2pm, there will be music and rhythm for toddlers with Maria McManus of ‘Kindermusik’, while crafting for children aged seven and over, with local artist, Rose Finnerty, will run concurrently.
Music and rhythm for those under the age of twelve with music therapist, Bernadette Moran, takes place from 1.45pm as afternoon storytime, recommended for children from three to eight years of age commences at 2pm.
To complete the morning and early afternoon of activities, there is a bake and decorate with Kathleen for the children aged six years and over, which commences at 2.30pm.
Throughout the day, there will be a public vote ongoing to determine the mindfulness and colour therapy colouring competition winner, as DJ Scott Sweeney, Spiderman, Elsa from Frozen and other children’s characters bringing a carnival atmosphere to the canopy area from 2pm to 5pm.
As the afternoon progresses, numerous individuals and local groups will be performing on the civic square from 2pm, to include St. Mary’s Karate Club, Attitude Dance Company, Karen Goode traditional Irish storytelling, Holly Kelly, Westside Martial Arts, and That’s Magic!
There will also be a number of community organisations in attendance during the event, providing information pertaining to the services which they provide namely Athlone Family Resource Centre, Extern, Barnardos, Gateway Youth Project, Youth Work Ireland and Men’s Shed Coosan.
Traditional crafters and small business owners promoting careers in crafting will also be notable by their presence for the duration.
